In my blog I do not use LOL. I will admit I do use it in txts, fb, and twitter. But I wish I didn’t. The first issue I have with lol is that when I use it I am almost never actually laughing out loud. I’m usually just amused. I have noticed that I, along with a lot of you, say “Literally LOL ing right now” when really mean it. Which completely negates the reason for the abbreviation in the first place. You have to type a whole sentence to explain that you aren’t simply typing lol because you are amused.

My biggest issue with LOL though, is not its purpose or meaning but when I use it so often that when I am thinking I actually think the letters L-O-L instead of simply being amused. It’s like LOL has infiltrated my brain! I cannot stand it! So I am going to make an effort to only use LOL if I am actually laughing. Instead of LOL I will Haha because that is a lot closer to what I am actually doing when I usually use LOL. I hope some of you will join me. 🙂
